How a Tree Helped Me Heal Generational Trauma During a Blackout

A personal story of inner healing, spiritual growth, and surviving life’s storms.

Hello Fascinating Ladies (and some gentlemen too), welcome in.

This week’s episode is raw, real, and filled with winter storms, both outside and within. While helping my mum recover from a spinal fracture in the heart of a Canadian ice storm, I found myself navigating more than just slippery roads and power outages. I was facing my past. What started with peanut butter sandwiches, candles, and BBQ dinners became something much deeper—a reflection on generational trauma, resilience, and the patterns we unconsciously carry.

Before we get into it, I wanted to give a warm welcome to this week’s subscribers;

Thank you for subscribing and joining my community.

Through it all, I was reminded of a powerful truth: healing doesn’t always happen in the therapist’s office. Sometimes, it shows up in the stillness of a blackout… or the resilience of a tree bowing under the oppression of the elements.

We dive into questions that may stir something in you too and I hope you will join us in our private chat—button below;

  • What kind of relationship did you have with your mother (or mother figure) growing up?

  • How did this relationship shape who you are today?

  • Did you assume it was normal? Until one day, you realized it wasn’t?

  • If you had a great upbringing, how did that shape who you are today?

  • What’s your relationship like with your mother (mother figure) now that you’re an adult?

This isn’t just about me—it’s an invitation for you to reflect, reconnect, and reclaim.

I also ask:

  • How do we begin to shift?

  • Where does shift work begin?

  • Don’t we all have shit and shift to go through?

I know I do. My journey hasn’t been linear, but I’m proud to say I feel 80% grounded in the life I’ve consciously created. So I ask you:

  • How solid is the ground you walk on?

  • Are you feeling free?

  • What part of your healing journey are you on?

  • What work have you done to become solid in who you are?

Let me know. Send a message. Leave a comment. Let’s talk.

Also in this episode:

  • The powerful moment when my mum looked to me for leadership—and the subtle shift that changed everything.

  • My full-on survival mode (Girl Guide training to the rescue!)

  • How Lauren Foster’s Happy and Free On Purpose landed in my lap at the perfect time (yes, the link is in the show notes!)

  • Why I’ll never put a non-stick pan on a BBQ—and if your ears perked up, leave a comment or call me at 656-222-0848, I’ll turn it into a future episode.

And then there’s this:
Have you ever heard yourself say something… and realize you’re speaking in your mother’s voice?

That moment hit me hard. I wasn’t just helping my mum; I was healing the version of me that had been unconsciously repeating inherited scripts. The ones that don’t belong to me anymore.

Through Lauren’s book, I asked myself:

  • What have I learned about myself?

  • How is the way I’m living now aligned with what really matters to me?

  • What compromises have I made that I can now release?

And now I ask you:

  • What can you fall in love with in your life right now?

  • Can you set an intention right now to change the way you look at your life?

  • Can you look for aspects of appreciation instead of things to complain about?

  • Can you look for what is pleasing instead of what is not?

  • How can you start teaching yourself right now to look for those things?

Have you heard of this proverb?

“Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime.”

What do you think? And, more importantly, are you microwaving fish ticks or are you fishing?

We’re not meant to carry it all. Some things are meant to be released. Just like the tree I connected with outside my window, oppressed by its elements, you too can rise again.

Let’s reflect together, and rise higher than ever before. And if you're ready to explore your own healing, I invite you to connect with me. My somatic intuitive training and hypnosis work is here to support you.

Because fascinating lady, this isn’t just a story about power outages and peanut butter sandwiches—it’s about powering up your own truth.
