Good morning Karen. I have so much to say on the subject and there’s definitely not enough room for me to go into a conversation with you about this. Alcoholism is something that I am too familiar with as my mom’s side of the family it runs rampant and it skipped her and I’m a “recovered alcoholic” and it’s been around 38 years. People may say you can’t be recovered. Well, I am because I have zero desire to ever engage in any type of alcohol at all so I don’t drink.

I also have quite a bit experience, working detox and in crisis stabilization units, and also in the intensive care unit and you’re 100% correct on the B vitamins. In the ICU we would have what we would call “ETOH bags” which are 1000 mL yellow bags full of the vitamins you were speaking of related to how alcohol depletes these vitamins in the body. They would also be on some type of H2 blocker, or a proton pump inhibitor because of the damage done to the esophagus, gut etc.

It does affect every single cell in the body, and there are certain areas that might get hit more than others, including the liver and the pancreas, etc. I have my labs checked annually especially for liver enzymes, etc. so far so good.

I won’t go into the details of my 13 years of drinking extremely heavy and blacking out. However, I will say that it ended up almost costing me my life related to such things as poor nutrition, etc..

Thanks for the podcast. I hope it helps many people 🙏

I embraced sobriety on Sept 7th 2023 - and haven't looked back. Yes, I still cook with alcohol, but I burn the alcohol part off. I even sometimes use tinctures but again burn off the alcohol with boiling water.

The day I chose sobriety I had an incredible experience... The idea of going back just isn't even a thing... https://hartlifecoach.substack.com/p/a-curious-event
