As I was driving to the grocery store, the bright red wheel caught my eye. The grocery store had to wait because I was eyeing an adventure. The Old Mill of Guilford is an original water-powered mill built in 1767 and is still in operation today. The original mill was built on nearby Beaver Creek then moved downstream to its current location and a water wheel added in 1818 then updated to this beautiful red wheel in the 1950’s. Legend has it that British troops seized the mill to grind grain for the soldiers prior to the Battle of Guilford Courthouse on March 15, 1781. Today, the mill is operated by Alice and Darrell Klug and volunteers from the community. Two hundred, fourty years later, The Klugs continue to mill all natural corn meal, grits and flour the traditional way; milling a wide range of mixes including, gingerbread, muffin, pancake, cookie, scone, biscuit, hushpuppy and the mill’s signature sweet potato muffin mix. There is an onsite store, and they also ship world wide. Worth the 10 minute free tour indeed.

Shine with Self love
In the famous words of The Beatles, "All you need is love, and love is all you need." Is it truly all you need?
Well, observing people's grocery choices certainly indicates a desire for a whole lotta of love. Food choices offer glimpses into the emotions people are experiencing inside. Some of us seem to be trying to fill a void by overindulging in food, seeking the unconscious desire to love and be loved.
When working with clients, I often inquire about their go-to comfort foods during times of stress. These choices provide insights into their emotional state. I am not going to delve too deep here. Instead, it's interesting to note that chocolate tops the list of sought-after sweets especially in February. In fact some studies show that women prefer chocolate over intimacy and orgasms.
Individuals drawn to chocolate often seek a deeper connection, longing for sensuality, desire, and a link to their spiritual and psychic instincts. This craving might stem from a lack of maternal care during early development, leading them to yearn for the nurturing feeling they missed out on perhaps as a child or young adult.
This longing sometimes originates from pre-birth rejection when mum couldn't emotionally support them during pregnancy and beyond. Consequently, they might continually seek love, affection, and a sense of belonging, often turning to unreliable sources to fill that maternal gap. At least chocolate is a safer option up to a point.
An aversion or allergy to chocolate mirrors similar patterns. Aversions to chocolate might display behaviors leaning towards self-denial, avoiding success, suppressing sexual desires, isolating themselves, and shying away from an active life. This aversion often arises from strict, severe parenting that limited their freedom and self-expression.
Before placing blame on our parents, it's crucial to remember they're doing their best, often grappling with their own inadequacies. Even with my own certification as an Early Childhood Educator and running my own daycare, I found parenting to be a continuous learning curve. It's fascinating that while a degree is required to teach children, anyone, even those without education, can raise a child. I find this baffling.
Ultimately, refrain from pointing fingers at your upbringing. Acknowledge the past but understand that you control the outcome in the present day. You are the sole proprietor of your reactions to childhood experiences. Don't confine yourself in a time loop that no longer exists. If you seek love, the first person to turn to is yourself. Without self-love, loving others becomes an exhausting challenge. You also can not find someone to complete you or to help you love yourself. You have to start with the best relationship and that is you.
