Whoa, there is a lot to unpack this week and it is so worth it. We are going to paint a canvas, create a vision map and really get down to where you have been to come full circle to where you are headed. Grab a good hot drink and relax into a nice comfy chair (or scroll from the toilet seat-hey, I don’t judge) and let’s get into it.
On a recent flight from Phoenix to Show Low, Arizona—an extremely short jaunt of ascent and descent, I decided to watch an episode of Star Trek: Discovery (Season 2, Episode 5: Saints of Imperfection). It seemed fitting, considering the themes I’ve been reflecting on lately. As I watched, the final moments of the episode the message resonated deeply with our shared journey this past year here on my publication, reminding me of how interconnected our search for meaning, reinvention, and confidence really is.
Star Trek: Discovery follows the adventures of the USS Discovery, a starship equipped with a one-of-a-kind propulsion system. This system allows the ship to jump instantaneously across vast distances in space using the mycelial network, a living web of fungal spores that spans the universe like a cosmic highway. Unlike traditional travel, which requires linear movement through space, Discovery can jump between space in an instant by navigating this network.
But the mycelial network is more than just a shortcut—it’s a mysterious, living ecosystem that defies scientific logic. The crew learns that tampering with it can have unforeseen consequences, connecting not only places but also life, death, and resurrection in ways they never imagined
The episode concludes with a deeply reflective monologue from Michael Burnham, a character who serves as the emotional core of the show. She has faced personal loss, misunderstandings, and difficult choices throughout her journey. In her reflection, she speaks to something universal:
“I envy those who can believe there is a greater hand writing our story, who chooses the words to keep chaos at bay; connection, joy, love, and resurrection. With these words, the path becomes clear for a moment and then disappears. If I have a path, I’m still searching for it. We all are. That’s how we find our way, by choosing to walk forward together. And if there is a greater hand leading us into an uncertain future, I can only hope it guides us well.”
This reflection from this episode; Saints of Imperfection, reminds us that life rarely provides a clear path forward. Just as the Discovery crew faces the unknown, we too search for direction, often unsure of what lies ahead. Reinvention is not about having all the answers—it’s about embracing uncertainty with courage and moving forward, even when the way is unclear.
We stand before our own versions of a blank canvas, holding the lessons we’ve gathered over time, ready to create something new. But the beauty of this journey is that we aren’t meant to do it alone. Much like the Discovery crew, we find our way through connection, love, and shared purpose. We are all on our individual paths together, intertwining and connecting like a mycelium network.
There may never be a perfect plan laid out before us—only fleeting moments of clarity that guide us briefly, then fade. Reinvention doesn’t require certainty; it asks only that we take one step at a time, trusting that each step brings us closer to the life we envision.
When we approach the unknown with this mindset, the future feels less overwhelming. The power lies not in predicting the outcome but in choosing to begin. And, just as Burnham reflects on the possibility of a greater hand guiding her, we too can move forward with this guiding hand with faith in ourselves, faith in the connections we cultivate, and faith in the unfolding of life. We must look forward in order to experience new perceptions, new beginnings. However, we must also look back in order to learn the lessons that encourages us to to explore and to boldly go where we have not gone before (if you are a Trekkie fan, did you like how I added that in there?).
Below are different methods you can try to really experience who you are and what you are ready to step into. You can try one or more exercises to help you tap into where you want to go next, bodly. Take some time and truly reflect and then get ready to step into an upgraded version of you.
Reflect and Journal: Discovering Your Inner Compass
To know where you're going, it helps to reflect on where you’ve been. Journaling offers a way to crystallize the lessons from the past year, bringing clarity to the experiences that have shaped you. This isn’t about listing accomplishments but about recognizing those subtle shifts—the moments when you trusted yourself, took a leap, or found strength in unexpected places or circumstances however subtle they may have been.
You may not be one to journal, however, if you really want to move forward, you must start by looking where you have been and the lessons you have gained from this journey. If you simply do not have the engine capabilities, try taking each occassion that is fresh in your mind, good, bad, frustrating and write each one on a sticky note so you can visually see them. Whether journaling or writing it on a sticky note, these lessons being physically written down on paper with a pen connects your brain to your arm, and the energy from your hand and arm connects your heart chakra. It opens you up to write from the heart; your hearts desire, your truth.
